After instructing for some years under the banner of other schools, Darius formally established his own Lin Jie School in 2011.
Meaning 'remarkable spiritual contribution', the name Lin Jie (pronounced lin jee-eh) was suggested to
Darius by his teacher, Grandmaster Lin Feng-Chao, as a blessing for the school and its teaching.
The name is a symbol of the basic motivation behind Lin Jie and its activities, which is to maintain and promote
the true spirit and purpose of the art of Tai Chi. For, to understand its underlying philosophy requires
considerable study, meditation and self-reflection, and it must be practised primarily as a form of Self-realisation and
spiritual alchemy. All other functions and benefits, whether health-related or martial, arise from this. Though all kinds
of Tai Chi can be seen practised today, from the commercial to the fashionable, if the Art is
not practised with a spiritual motivation, it is not really Tai Chi, but only something that outwardly resembles it.
Because a good knowledge and understanding of the Art is not commonplace, Darius works in parallel with
his teacher to decode and reveal its deeper meaning. This is done via the Lin Jie School as well as the authoring of books
and articles. Darius believes that his background of knowledge of the Buddhist, Daoist and Yoga teachings, as well as his
experience in meditation and other martial arts, affords him the means to assist others in understanding the essence
of Tai Chi.
